!Dr. Priestley's eldest son, Joseph, preceded his father to Pennsylvania, and with several others became involved in extensive land dealings. He returned to England about 1810, after his father's death, and apparently never again came to America, though his letters to his son in Northumberland repeatedly mention his desire to do so and even to re-emigrate. Much of the rest of his life, especially after the death of his first wife, seems to have been devoted to managing his own and his family's financial affairs and in bringing up his children. He was involved for a time in an iron foundry business in Wales. He died in Exeter, apparently while on holiday.
