Notes for William Cary
UPDATE: 1998-08-12 IGI shows a William Carey son of William C. and Hannah christened 11 Nov 1781 at St Andrew, Holborn, London (Batch/sheet P010516, Library Call Number for Source 374355 Printout 820685). Possible sister Jane christened 29 Jan 1797 idem). My print 11 Feb 1991.
IGI records marriage 22 Apr 1804 at Cathedral, Manchester, Lancs., of Hannah WILLIAMS and William COY, a possible misreading for CARY (Batch/sheet M005464, Library call no. 438188 Printout 6900002). My print 6 Feb 1991.
Carey Fam. Tree chart
Carey Chart says he came to America in 1820(?) and shows 9 c., JFCary memorial booklet says abt 1812, with 6 children, 4 youngest born in America. His grandson JFCarey's will says he came in 1816, and kept a diary which in 1926 (26 March) was in possession of Alice C. Cross, his sister.
Wm. Cary & family arrived Steerage 23 Apr 1819 Phila in the American ship Dido, John E. Mathieu, Master, embarked from Havre, bringing with them "2 Trunks clothes, 1 Bbl & Gun." Manifest bears later (1939) notation "15 passengers," but that conflicts with list of passengers (3 Cabin + 12 Steerage exclusive of Carys).
