Notes for James Magruder Jr.
Mentioned in will of father, Ninian Magruder, from whom he inherited 300 acres. P.G. Wills 1751 "Alexander". V.i. Md. Cal. Wills vol.10 p.158-9.
Was a corporal in Capt. Samuel Magruder's company, 1740.
Dates given in ACGS YB XLIII (1959) p. 16 as 1723-1790/5. Poole (ACGS YB38, 1954, p.18) gives no date but shows him #9, after Rachel (b.1726/1727).
But this could be only a reflection of her not knowing where he came, and there is a 5-yr gap between Nathaniel 1721 and Rebecca 1726, into which he might well fit.
As of 3.i.95, I have not found a record of his death in the 1790's, but PGCHS' Index to PG Probate records shows entries for James M., exectrce Mary M., as follows: Adm. 19 Mar 1775, Liber JD 1, fol. 210; (Will) (no exectr) 16 Jul 1775, Liber T 1, fol.115; Inv. 13 Jul 1773, Liber GS 2, fol. 232 ("James Jr.") (Mary M. exectrce). Is it possible he died 1773/5?
Jane Sween ("All you would want...", Mont. Co. Hist. Soc.) gives for him 5c.: John Bowie, Rachel m. Robert Thrift, Mary m. Thos. Duckett Boyd, Ann m. Benjamin White Jones, and Rebecca d. unm. She cites will of Rebecca, P.G. Co. Liber C folio 270 dtd 24 Feb 1796 pr. 2 June 1796. Abs. names sister Rachel Magruder, bro. John Bowie Magruder, wits. William Smith, William Waters.
Took "Patriot's Oath" before Justice Josdeph Wilson in Montgomery CO., Maryland 7 Feb 1778 [ACGS 1921, p. 49]
